"YOUNG & OLD ACROSS THE GLOBE": Multicultural Portrait Photography by Amy S. Dane, will be on view at the Borgia Gallery at Elms College from September 1-28. The public is invited to a reception on Thursday, September 12th from 4-6pm.

Geri Brunell, Associate Professor of Fine Arts and curator of the Borgia Gallery, asked Dane to exhibit some of her portraits of locals taken on a journey across the Silk Road. Dane began in Almaty, Kazakhstan, backtracked through the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region of China, continued through Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and finally Turkmenistan. The photographer found her subjects in local bazaars, markets and Madrassas, often flashing smiles full of gold teeth.

Brunell was also captivated by an exhibit Dane had previously organized highlighting portraits of children worldwide. She requested both shows to be mounted at the Borgia Gallery. Dane's response was to eliminate middle-age subjects, add some new faces and create a show focusing on young and old, emphasizing the Silk Road per Brunell's request.

The resulting exhibit is a multicultural glimpse of people from several continents and many countries. Each face has a story to tell, and Dane hopes that her audience will find it.
